DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – People walked to raise awareness for teen dating violence on Saturday at the 5 Seasons Family Sports Club.
Walkers took four laps around the tennis courts while music blasted and prizes were given out.
Prevention Coordinator for Family Violence Prevention Center Cherie Dixon told FOX 45 that this was a nationwide event.
Dixon said that walks around the nation say “Walk a mile in her shoes,” but they are sending a different message in Dayton.
“…this is their shoes, because we know that teenagers, both boys and girls, are at risk of teen dating violence.”
One advocate said she hopes the event will help young people understand the message and have fun doing it.
This is the sixth annual walk. Last year’s event reached a record high with 200 attendees.
They hope to beat that record this year.
