LEAGUE CITY, TX — A League City Intermediate School student is being detained after he allegedly brought an unloaded gun on campus Monday morning.
Officials with Clear Creek ISD said the students were in the Student Center when the incident was reported to school officials.
The student who brought the gun on campus was taken into custody by a Galveston County Sheriff’s deputy working security at the school.
Clear Creek ISD sent a letter to parents that read:
“Maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for students at League City Intermediate is our top priority, which is why I am writing you today. This morning a student reported to an Assistant Principal that another student had brought a weapon to school. The student in question had not reported to any classes and was in the Student Center at the time of the report.
“The student was found in possession of an unloaded handgun and was immediately arrested by the Galveston County Sheriff Liaison Officer stationed at the campus.
“I realize this news is unsettling in light of recent events. School is continuing as scheduled today. Please contact me if you have any questions.”
The arrest of the student came just days after 17-year-old Dimitrious Pagourtz allegedly gunned 23 people inside Santa Fe High School, killing eight students and two teachers.
He is being held in the Galveston County Jail without bond.
Officials have not said if charges will be filed against the student.
School Districts throughout the Houston area announced the enhanced security measures through the end of the school year.
Clear Creek ISD was one of those districts.
