A 16-year-old schoolgirl was accidentally stabbed by a boy she knew at an underage disco on Saturday night.
The pals were enjoying a night out at Attitude, an under 18s disco held at the Wright Venue in Swords, when the shocking incident took place, Dublin Live reports.
A teenage boy is understood to have brought a knife into the disco, and it sliced the girl when he gave her a hug, the Irish Daily Star reports.
he pair are believed to know one another and gardai are treating the incident as a freak accident.
Another friend of the injured girl told the paper how she initially feared she had been the victim of an acid attack.
The pal said: “This fella came over. He came over and he lifted her up. He slid her back down on the ground but as he did that it [the blade] went into her leg.
“Two seconds later she dropped to the floor and she just goes to me, ‘It feels like acid’.
“I started screaming because I didn’t know what was going on and then saw he had a the blade. I got such a fright.
“Her whole leg looked like it was open. He ran off at this point, I went to security.”
She said that bouncers were quickly after the boy, and he was caught almost immediately.
A Garda spokesman confirmed that the incident was being investigated and said a teenage boy was arrested and released without charge.
Last night, Wright Venue spokesman Ronan Galligan defended security at the club, and said the incident was an extremely rare occurrence at the successful underage night.
He told the Star: “This is something we’ll review afterwards and see if we need to change anything.”
