STOCKTON — Detectives in Stockton have made an arrest in the murder of Michael “Mike” Donaghy, the Emergency Food Bank director found dead last week.
The suspect is a 17-year-old boy.

On an already difficult day for Debra and Justin Donaghy, the mother and son stepped in front of the cameras before her husband’s and his father’s funeral.

“My husband, Michael Donaghy, was murdered last Friday and we are here to celebrate his life,” Debra Donaghy said.

Before they did that, both wanted to say something about the person arrested in his homicide case.

“All prayers thoughts and wishes from our family go out to the 17-year-old boy,” Justin Donaghy said.

A boy Stockton police are charging with homicide, but are not releasing anymore details than that.

Michael Donaghy’s widow said now is not the time to blame.

“You’re innocent until proven guilty,” she said. “I know there were many folks that came by to the viewing yesterday and they’re very angry and upset, and, of course, we’re upset. There is a lot of pain when you lose someone.”

That’s pain they’re embracing. In her faith, Debra Donaghy says she is letting go of any hatred she has for the person who took her husband away.

“Whoever was the perpetrator, we forgive them,” she said.

Next week the District Attorney’s Office will determine if the teenager will be tried as an adult.

In lieu of flowers the family is asking that donations be made to the Stockton Emergency Food Bank, in memory of of Michael Donaghy.
