CHILLIWACK (NEWS 1130) — An elementary school in Chilliwack was in cleanup mode Thursday morning after someone broke in and ransacked part of it.
Two kitchens at Promontory Heights elementary were in disarray, with items thrown around and food spilled all over, according to Allan Van Tassel with the district. .
“Also, one of the toilets was damaged, and two of our overhead projectors were damaged,” he said.
That toilet was so damaged, it needed to be replaced.
An intruder alarm alerted the school that someone had broken in, and teachers coming back to prepare for returning students were greeted by RCMP.
Van Tassel says the district does have cameras, and Mounties are seriously investigating what happened.
There’s no estimate yet on the cost of the damage, and their crews got to work cleaning it up quickly.
But he says this is frustrating, since he says their cleaning staff work hard to keep the school in excellent shape.
“It just adds more work to an already very busy crew.”
