TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – A Washington Local teenager is in custody after assaulting a security officer.
It happened at Jefferson Junior High Tuesday morning.
According to the police report officers were called to Jefferson for a reported assault. Officers say a 13-year-old student tried to stab security officer Craig Hanna while at school.
Hanna told police he heard a knock at his door. When he opened it no one was there so he stepped into the hallway. That’s when, the report states the suspect attempted to stab him.
Police say Hanna felt a poke in his abdomen and saw the knife fall to the ground.
At that time, the suspect was placed in handcuffs without further incident.
Hanna had a small cut but did not require medical attention. The knife broke.
The 13-year-old told police he wanted to kill Hanna because he didn’t like him.
Right now the teen remains behind bars. He’s expected to be in court Wednesday morning for arraignment.
Meantime, Washington Local Schools released a statement about the incident writing:
“Today, February 20th, there was an isolated incident at Jefferson Junior High School. The incident involved a thirteen-year-old student and one staff member. It was handled immediately utilizing the safety procedures in place. All students were safe at all times. The school day resumed as normal. we take student safety seriously and wanted all families to be informed that an incident occurred.”
