A man was found dead with a gunshot wound and at least five other people, including a teenage boy trying to rob a cellphone store, have been wounded in Chicago shootings since Thursday morning, according to police.
The man who was shot to death, 21, was found around 11:50 a.m. in a vehicle, Chicago police said in a media notification. He was found in the 1300 block of South Kildare Avenue in the Lawndale neighborhood.
He was identified as Jonathan Fearcy, of the same block where he was killed, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. His identification could not be verified with public records. He was pronounced dead at 12:06 p.m.
Police released no other details regarding the killing.
Earlier, a 17-year-old boy trying to rob a cellphone store was shot by the store owner.
It happened around 10:45 a.m. in the 200 block of North Kedzie Avenue, police said.
The robber exchanged gunfire with the store owner, a 40-year-old man, and was hit in the right shoulder in the attempted robbery. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said.
The store owner was not injured.
Police later said the 17-year-old had been arrested Nov. 28 in connection with an earlier armed robbery.
In other shootings:
- Two men were shot in the 3200 block of West Walnut Street in East Garfield Park about 8:20 p.m., making for the third shooting in the neighborhood for the day, according to police. A 26-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the hip and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, and a 35-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the ankle and also was taken to Mount Sinai, where he was in good condition.
- About 7:55 p.m., a 26-year-old man was shot in the 4600 block of North Central Park Avenue in the Albany Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side. The man suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen, according to a police media notification.
- A 26-year-old man was shot around 5:20 p.m. in the 3400 block of West Ohio Street, police said. The man was shot in the abdomen and the leg and taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition.
