Queensbury #woman accused of #harassment as a #hate crime against #teen

QUEENSBURY, N.Y.  (NEWS10) – A local woman is accused of directing racial slurs to a teenager through social media.

Erica Cooper, 33, was charged with one count of Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree as a Hate Crime.

In October, police said Cooper initiated communication with a 14-year-old male using Facebook Messenger. She allegedly directed racial slurs to the teen and threatened to physically harm him.

The dispute stemmed from a previous confrontation between the victim and Cooper’s child, police said.

A warrant for Cooper’s arrest was issued in October, but she was not arrested until Saturday when police responded to a call for an intoxicated female at a bar in Warrensburg.

Cooper was arraigned and released on $1,000 cash bail. An order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

Cooper is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
