BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/KBFX) — A 16-year-old boy was killed late Sunday night in a suspected drunken driving incident in west Bakersfield.

Police said the boy was hanging out of the passenger-side window when he was thrown from the car during a left turn from Renfro Road onto Madison Michelle Way. The boy fell onto the roadway and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the 17-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI and vehicular manslaughter.

Another teenager, who Sgt. Ryan Kroeker estimated to be 16 or 17, was a backseat passenger. That teen is also suspected of being intoxicated, Kroeker said.
